What we do at Homeschooling in Nature

Homeschooling in Nature is a bilingual & nature-based learning program that goes beyond enrichment. We provide curriculum-based lessons in science and social studies with integrated art projects completely in nature. We implement place & nature-based teachings, inquiry-driven learning, and child-directed activities that enhance academic performance by creating solid and long-lasting learning foundations, positive core experiences, and build self-confidence and an interest in science.

Our nature-based & bilingual outdoor learning programs aim to foster kindness, curiosity, and an interest in science, while fostering respect and a deep connection with nature. An inquiry-driven approach enhances children’s learning experiences so kids can thrive academically and build self-confidence. Children in our programs develop a better understanding of the world, the importance for its conservation, and take meaningful actions to make the changes they want to see in the world.

Every day, we learn about the fragility of nature but also the resilience in nature in a fun way…

rain or shine.

Curriculum

We follow a state-approved curriculum and NGSS standards with an emphasis in environmental science to create each lesson. Children receive place-based nature learning, complete assignments, and turn in work samples, discuss social and environmental issues, and become naturalists without even noticing it!

Nature Hikes

We hike! We hike every single day sometimes 1, 2 or even 5 miles depending on the age group, weather, and how adventurous we feel. Our hikes are the antithesis of what this pandemic has done to our activity habits of sitting around, often in front of a screen. Children build up endurance and self-confidence as they exercise and explore the best playground there is: the natural world!

Nature-inspired

Arts & Crafts

We blend the best of both worlds: fact-based educator + artistically talented assistants. Nature is composed of the most intricate and incomprehensibly beautiful designs. We use readily available & sustainable natural materials and let kids express themselves with more than just words, using nature and Her gifts for inspiration.

Guest Speakers

Our region is not just a biodiverse hotspot of species, it’s also diverse in talent & culture! We are a community-based group with an environmental mission in mind. We invite and partner with non-profit organizations, professionals and other community members to further enrich the educational experience of our group. We welcome guest speakers from various fields, and encourage the parent body to showcase their role in our community.

Nature Discoveries

Going beyond enrichment! During our hikes and throughout our day, children embark on explorative activities of mind and body. They learn about how their world is put together in a direct way, engage in deep and meaningful conversations, see the big picture, and develop a sense of place. Children look at the world through the eyes of curiosity and love… and we fully embrace their approach.

Games, B-days & Other Learning Activities

Kids having fun! We have fun learning but we also have fun playing! We sing and celebrate birthdays during circle time and learn to give complements to one another. Other activities we engage in include music, woodworking, storytime, Spanish activities, nature journaling, group book readings, yoga & mindfulness, water games, role-playing, grass gymnastics, lightsabering, nature restaurant, and so much more!

Fieldtrips

We organize unique field trips for the whole family! We don’t just “visit”, we further our kids’ learning experience beyond a school curriculum. Fieldtrips are tied to content covered in our teachings, science lessons & community projects. We also volunteer, we build community, we give back.
